About Diane’s Work
The work I am presenting here does not lend itself to the linear treatment that ‘books’ require. I think that is the good news. Ordinary discourse is not linear. Internal ’streams of consciousness’ are not linear. Hopefully I will be able to exploit the nature of normal discourse, streams of consciousness and the structure of blogging to make myself useful to a lot of folks.
I believe contemporary psych theory and practice has become overly simplified. It would appear that a common objective is to enable people to master their internal universes (to what end?) I believe we have applied the logic of assembly-line management to something that does not lend itself to assembly-line management; namely, nourishment of the growth of individuals. I believe we have been seduced by the appearance of a growing understanding of brain-part functions with insufficient understanding of either the whole of the brain or it’s functioning in context. I believe the aforementioned errors are supporting nothing less than disastrous policies and practices.
I believe that ‘better science’ can be found on this site than in many studies purporting to show that mental states are entirely driven by biology. I believe that all psychotherapeutic approaches must be put through a filter of cutting edge science; some approaches we hold dear will necessarily be dropped. Some approaches which may ‘offend’ our sensibilities (e.g. may not seem ’spiritual’ enough) may prove effective.
I invite you to join me as I share the fruit of my reconsideration of psych theory and practice. I invite you to subscribe to one or both of my semi-blogs; Our Children/Ourselves and/or ‘Clinical’ Tips. The two semi-blogs provide support for your personal and professional development for a modest fee.
